gas at home, driving a car or flying in a plane creates CO2 which is released into the atmosphere. In the UK, it
is estimated that each person's annual carbon footprint is 11 metric tonnes.
The most straightforward way to mitigate the effect of Carbon Dioxide on the Earth's climate is to use less energy.
Another strategy involves the creation of carbon sinks (for example forests) to absorb CO2 that has already been created.
Practical ways for consumers to minimise their carbon footprint are to buy more fuel efficient cars or invest in better

Why did we develop our Carbon Offsetting Tool?
Green issues are now at the forefront of the consumer's mind. We created our patent pending CO2 offsetting tool to pair this consumer awareness with a service that adds value to our partners' brands. Most importantly, this service offers a viable way for consumers to mitigate their effect on the environment.
The Xelector Carbon Offsetting Tool can be associated with several or our existing comparison solutions; most notably gas & electricity, travel insurance and home insurance.
Xelector's Carbon Footprint Calculator serves as an educational tool to the end user (how much CO2 do they emit), with the added benefit of offering offsetting! Our tool is efficient and easy to use, and can be configured to promote the core comparison and switching products through electronic offsetting vouchers.
How does it work?
A channel partner (e.g. MSN) adds a link to the Xelector Carbon Offsetting Tool on its site. A user visiting the channel
partner's site calculates his/her carbon footprint by entering certain travel and household details.
The user can then choose to offset some-or-all of their carbon footprint by purchasing EUAs. Xelector sells EUAs
and retires them on the customer's behalf. Once a customer purchases one EUA, that tonne can now no longer be emitted
by any business or country in Europe.
Once EUAs are purchased, a certificate outlining the details of the offset is sent to the customer.
EUAs are European Union emissions Allowances. EUAs are traded through the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme.
Xelector is a registered broker. Xelector purchases EUAs on behalf of our partners and retires them so they cannot
